REUNION 2004 Edition

Mail Call Ladies!

Here it is……The Reunion Announcement. Reunion number 12. It’s once again time to grab family and friends and get ready to have a GREAT time seeing old friends and making new ones.

I want to point out that this is basically the “Vietnam Era” reunion.” But any 2/9er’s invited to attend. We are all a “Band of Brothers!”

In this letter you will find an “ Updated” addition to the Network Roster. These are the names of the men who have signed on since the last newsletter was mailed out in January. That is one reason why this letter has been mailed out to all of the men in the Network from WW II to Korea through the Post Vietnam Era. We have picked up members from all these periods. So if you men who served in the times other than Vietnam were wondering why you are receiving this, that is the reason.

There again will be a hospitality room open for all three days. So bring whatever photographs and memorabilia you have. There will be ample display areas.

If you wish to indulge in a drink or two, there is a bar located in the restaurant at the hotel. The Network will provide the brewskies, you will be allotted 2 warm cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, or two warm cokes. (just a joke) Anything harder than that you will want to bring. Soft drinks and coffee will be provided as well. This will be in the conference room. There is no registration fee so feel free to bring any pogey bait you desire.

BANQUET!

This year I am planning on doing what we did at last years reunion. On the evening of the 10th we will cater in a bunch of food to the conference room. Probably one huge Pizza Party again. Also there are a number of restaurants in the area to eat at because I know that you will find a old or make new friends at the reunion and just hanging out will be sufficient. So basically this years reunion will really be a laid back affair with a central gathering area for all of us.

So if you are coming this year I would like to ask you to make a small , maybe $5 to $10 per person donation to help with the catering expenses. (Please indicate “Catering”)

ALTERNATIVE HOTELS

If the Quality Inn Iwo Jima has been filled up these are two hotels that can be used.

Hyatt Arlington (Within 2 Blocks)
1325 Wilson Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22209 Tel: 705-535-1234
The Virginian Suites (Across the Street)
1500 Arlington Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22209 Tel: 800-275-2866

The staff at the IWO JIMA indicated that even if we go over our quota of 65 rooms they will still honor the $75 room rate. So if the person at the desk tells you that all of the 2/9 rooms are booked you might want to mention their promise. Also I talked to the agent last week and was informed that over half of the rooms have already been booked.

I would like to at this time thank David Byrne, Kathy Upchurch, John Goulart, Glenn Siegler, Van Olson, Kevin Jewers, James Sadler, Denis "Izzy" Isrow, Mike Martin, Tom Stephenson, LTCOL Donald Shockey, Ted Licitra, Robert Leary, Bob Slattery, John Murphy, Jerry Stiles, Douglas Goodin, Ed Gorman, Paul Morin, SGTMAJ Ron Trombly, Colonel Dave Garner, Colonel Harvey Barnum, Jr., Jimmy "Matt" Matthews, Robert Driver, Lester Wadleigh, Jr, Walter Thomas, Jerry Butler, Kenton Dean, Myles Herring, Sr, George "Spike" Spiekermann, Ray White, Ralph Martinez, John Moseley, Marvin Davis, Ward Hoffman Jr., Watson Burton, 1LT Tom Brandt, Charles Turbak, James Mullin, James Chase, Tim Gavin, Major Joe Guggino, Jim Duncan, John Gamertsfelder, G.W. This Network could not run without the generosity of persons such as you.

BEGGING ONCE AGAIN!

As stated above the Network keeps going on contributions from You its members. This “Reunion Announcement” will be a little bit cheaper due to the fact that the entire roster is not included. You will find a roster of the men that have “joined” since the last newsletter hit your mailbox. There will be over 1500 letters mailed out this time. So every contribution helps. It is a good thing that you do. There are men that find the Network and e-mail me with words such as “I have finally talked to my buddies that I haven’t seen or heard from in over 30 years.” Fills me with pride when I hear those words. And this wouldn’t happen without your help. And I do need your help. So if you can find it in your heart to donate a dollar or two…….

SEE YOU IN NOVEMBER!

I just want to say that I hope to see a great group once again in November. Each year I expect the reunion to be smaller. Each year it grows. Last year there were 109 people that signed the guestbook. So again, there are 65 rooms blocked this year. So if you’re planning on coming don’t wait until the last moment to make your reservation.

So once again
